Edvard Munch Biography

Edvard Munch was born in Lote, Norway in 1863. Munch lived a fairly tragic life, marred by illness, depression and the death of loved ones. His paintings themselves seem to relect his troubled soul, especially his most famous work, 'The Scream' (1893), 'Vampires' and 'Madonna' (1894). He took inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin with their swirling lines, energetic brushstrokes and vivid colours. He used painting to express his innermost desires and feelings, making him the first Expressionist painter. Edvard Munch died in Oslo in 1944.
