Marc Chagall Fine Art Prints
Born in Russia in 1887 in Vitbsk, Belarus, Marc Chagall was the eldest of nine children, in a close-knit (though poor) Jewish family. He initially learned to paint under the tutelage of a famed local artist, before moving to St. Petersburg to attend art college. After becoming a successful artist, Chagall left for Paris, where he became friends with fellow artists Robert Delunay and Ferdinand Leger, and writer Apollinaire.
Chagall became a prolific artist who created mosaics, tapestries, stained glass windows and stage sets, though has become best known for his paintings. On our website you will find art prints of many of Marc Chagall most famous paintings, including Promenade, The Lovers, I and the Village, and The Acrobat and The Bride and Groom. Chagall took his inspiration from his early life in rural russia, and fairytales and jewish folklore. As a result, many of his paintings have a dreamlike quality to them, with figures flying through the air, as in 'The Lovers'. Despite the hardships of his life, Chagall's works are vividly coloured, and often joyful. He died in France in 1985, at the age of 97.
