Ona was born in Algeria in 1960, and today he lives and works in France. On ochre backgrounds, strange figures appear: half woman, half ant, they appear as visions, seeming to leap from nowhere, etched against the burning earth. Ona's paintings have an element of mystery about them, transcending composition. The red African soil, ochre and yellow as a metaphor for the sun, and gold to accentuate the sensation of heat.
