Edward Hopper - Artist Biography


Edward Hopper Artist Biography - Artist Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York in 1882. He trained as a commercial artist and painter in New York, and ultimately went on to become one of America's foremost realist painters. Hopper's world consists of stark urban and suburban landscapes, lit with either neon or bright, glaring sunlight. There's often a sense of loneliness and isolation in his compositions, as in his landscapes 'The Lighthouse', 'Gas 1940', and 'The Nighthawks' featuring the scene through the windowns of a late night cafe. 'Nighthawks' became one of the most iconic American paintings of the twentieth century. Hopper died in 1967 in his studio.
